Cargo delivery by air

The growth rate of Uzbekistan's economy is gradually increasing, and according to forecasts, this process will continue to gain momentum. Air cargo delivery to Uzbekistan from China, EU countries, the CIS, Turkey, and Russia is becoming increasingly relevant. International air transportation of the following goods is gaining popularity:

Food products, including perishable goods
Medicines and medical equipment
Building materials and machinery
Vehicles
Special equipment
Valuable and hazardous cargo

Although air cargo delivery is the most expensive transport service, it offers significant time savings, which is the most valuable resource in business. The geographical location of Uzbekistan limits the use of other types of transportation: there are no sea borders, and no direct connections with Europe, Russia, China, or other developed countries. Therefore, rail and road transport, as well as air cargo delivery to Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand, Navoi, and other airport cities are widely used.

Consolidated air cargo delivery

Cargo aircraft are designed to transport various types of goods. Their cargo compartments are divided into sections. Every airport receiving air cargo has a transit warehouse where consolidated cargo is formed and sent by plane to the city specified by the recipients.

There are restrictions on goods that cannot be delivered by air. These include: explosives, all types of gases, flammable liquids and solids. The transport of poisonous, toxic, radioactive substances, as well as peroxides, oxidizers, and corrosive compounds is also prohibited. In addition, heavy oversized structures that exceed the height or width of the loading hatch cannot be transported by air. Airport authorities may also impose additional restrictions when transporting highly hazardous cargo.

Air cargo delivery from China and other countries is carried out according to regulations approved by a special UN commission. Dangerous goods must bear a special marking label, accompanied by a declaration and a “Dangerous Goods Declaration” instruction.

Types of cargo and air transport rules

The type of cargo determines the requirements for transport conditions and accompanying documentation. The sender is responsible for obtaining permits, certificates, export licenses, and other documents as required by the national laws of the origin, destination, and transit countries. According to Uzbekistan’s regulatory framework, all air cargo is divided into the following categories:

  • lightweight;
  • oversized and heavy;
  • radioactive and other dangerous;
  • liquids;
  • live cargo.
  • perishable and temperature-sensitive;
  • transfer cargo;
  • requiring escort;
  • valuable.

Often, cargo falls into several of the categories listed above, which must be taken into account during packaging, labeling, loading, and preparation of accompanying documents.

Airlines have the right to inspect the packaging and contents of any cargo unit, as well as to verify the correctness of the accompanying documentation. The following items are prohibited for import into Uzbekistan:

  • obscene literature and items that contradict the principles and legislation of the country;
  • cargo packed in hay, grass, straw, or other plant materials;
  • counterfeit money and securities, as well as equipment and stamps for printing them;
  • narcotics and psychotropic substances.

Advantages and disadvantages of air transportation

Air cargo delivery has its advantages:

Speed

Air transport is a fast way to send and receive cargo.

Safety

It is proven that aviation is the most reliable mode of transport. Air cargo delivery guarantees almost 100% safety of goods.

Large cargo volume

Aircraft transport not only millions of people over long distances but also hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo.

No obstacles

The only danger for airplanes is air turbulence. Proper cargo stacking and securing in the cargo hold counteracts this. Air transport is universal — it carries both passengers and cargo.

Optimal cost-to-time ratio

High competition among carriers effectively regulates rates and prevents price inflation. Meanwhile, road transport offers fast delivery, especially for short and medium distances.

The disadvantages of air cargo delivery include:

High transportation cost
Due to the high cost, transporting cheap goods that do not require urgent delivery becomes economically unfeasible.
Restrictions on air cargo delivery
Not everything can be transported by plane.
Increased strict requirements from insurance companies
These lead to tighter control over packaging, placement of goods, and document compliance.
Weather dependency
Snowfalls, rains, strong winds, volcanic eruptions, and other climate anomalies.

However, like any type of transport, road freight has its disadvantages. Limited load capacity, traffic congestion, infrastructure issues, and weather conditions can all cause delivery delays.

Alternative to road freight

In terms of speed, air delivery wins over long distances, such as cargo transport from China. Over short distances, road transport can be more efficient: flight organization is a complex process, while loading a truck is quicker. For global coverage, aviation is the leader. However, planes can only deliver cargo to locations with airfields — vehicles are more mobile in that sense. Because air delivery is fast, the risk of damage or theft is much lower compared to road transport.
